How MBBS Admission Works

Admission to MBBS in India is based solely on NEET UG. Your NEET rank, category, home state and budget then decide which colleges you can reach through counselling — run nationally by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and locally by each state's counselling authority.

Government colleges offer the lowest fees and the toughest competition. Private and deemed universities add many more seats at higher fees. Knowing which counselling covers which seat is the first step to a sensible plan.

What Is the All India Quota (AIQ)?

15% of seats in state government medical colleges are open to students from every state through MCC counselling. MCC also fills seats at:

  • 15% of government MBBS seats in every state
  • Government dental colleges (AIQ seats)
  • All AIIMS institutes
  • JIPMER Puducherry and Karaikal
  • Central universities
  • ESIC medical colleges
  • Deemed universities (100% of seats)
  • AFMC Pune (registration via MCC, then its own selection)

  • No state domicile required
  • Admission open to candidates from all states
  • A wide range of colleges in choice filling
  • Modern infrastructure
  • Strong clinical exposure
  • International collaborations at many institutes

  • AIIMS Rishikesh
  • AIIMS Patna

MBBS at Central Universities

These universities offer MBBS seats through MCC counselling, purely on NEET UG rank and your choices.

  • University of Delhi medical colleges

Eligibility

  • Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English
